What Data We Collect

We only collect the data you choose to share with us. Here's what that includes:

Account Information

  • Username: So you can log in
  • Password: Stored securely (we can't see it)
  • Account creation date: For account management

Your Entries

Everything you write in Brain Log is stored so you can access it later:

  • Mood entries (how you're feeling, energy, stress)
  • Tricky thoughts and reflections
  • Behavior reflections
  • Your values and goals
  • Values in action entries
  • Favorite wellness strategies

Technical Data

We automatically collect some technical information to make the app work:

  • Session information (to keep you logged in)
  • App preferences (like dark mode settings)
  • Basic usage data (to fix bugs and improve the app)

Why We Collect This Data

We only collect data that's necessary for Brain Log to work. Here's why:

  • To save your entries: So you can access them later
  • To keep you logged in: So you don't have to log in every time
  • To personalize your experience: Like remembering your theme preference
  • To improve the app: To fix bugs and make Brain Log better

Legal basis (GDPR): We process your data based on your consent (when you create an account) and to fulfill our contract with you (providing the app service). We only process what's necessary for the app to function.

How We Store Your Data

Security

We take security seriously. Your data is stored in a secure database with encryption. Passwords are hashed (encrypted) so even we can't see them. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information.

Location

Your data is stored on secure servers. We don't transfer your data outside the UK/EEA without appropriate safeguards.

Data Retention

We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete all your data immediately. We don't keep backups of deleted accounts.

Who Can See Your Data

Only you. Your entries are private and only you can see them.

  • You: You can see all your own data
  • App administrators: Only for technical support (we can't see your actual entries, just technical info)
  • No one else: We don't share your data with anyone

Important: We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't use it for marketing. Your data stays private.

Your Rights (GDPR)

Under UK GDPR, you have important rights over your data. Here's what you can do:

1. Right to Access

You can see all the data we have about you. You can export it anytime from your profile settings.

2. Right to Data Portability

You can download all your data in a format you can use (JSON or CSV). Go to Profile → Settings → Data & Privacy.

3. Right to Deletion

You can delete your account and all your data at any time. This is permanent and cannot be undone. Go to Profile → Settings → Data & Privacy.

4. Right to Correction

You can edit or update your data anytime. Most entries can be edited directly in the app.

5. Right to Withdraw Consent

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. You're not locked in.

Special Information for Users Under 18

If you're under 18, you have extra protections under the Children's Code (Age-Appropriate Design Code):

  • Privacy by default: Your data is private from the start
  • Minimal data: We only collect what's needed
  • Your control: You can delete your data anytime
  • No tracking: We don't track you across other websites
  • Clear information: We explain things in simple language

Note: If you're under 13, you may need a parent or guardian's permission to use Brain Log, depending on where you live. We recommend talking to a trusted adult about using the app.

Cookies and Technical Data

Brain Log uses minimal technical data to function:

  • Session cookies: To keep you logged in (deleted when you log out)
  • Local storage: To remember your preferences (like dark mode)
  • No tracking cookies: We don't use advertising or tracking cookies
  • No third-party analytics: We don't use services that track you

Do We Share Your Data?

No. We don't share your data with anyone.

We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't give it to other companies. The only exception would be if required by law (like a court order), which is extremely rare.

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We'll also try to notify you of significant changes. You can always check this page to see the latest version.
